My Review

Women navigating the challenging yet rewarding world of leadership will find an inspiring guide in Ronica Watkins’ Winning at Leading: Women in Leadership – The Power of She. Published by Ronica Watkins herself on January 31, 2024, this empowering book is a testament to the resilience, creativity, and strength of women stepping into roles of influence and decision-making. Whether you’re just starting your leadership journey or looking to refine your skills, Watkins’ insights are both practical and motivational.

Available in eBook, hardcover, paperback, and audio formats, this book offers something for everyone. It’s more than a leadership guide—it’s a life guide.

What’s Inside?

At its core, Winning at Leading explores the essence of leadership, with a special emphasis on women’s unique challenges and strengths. Watkins highlights the milestones women have achieved in leadership while honestly addressing the systemic barriers that still exist.

From cultivating emotional intelligence to mastering the art of work-life balance, Watkins covers the full spectrum of skills required for effective leadership. She empowers readers to find their voice, build resilient networks, and advocate for themselves in male-dominated industries. There’s even an emphasis on the often-overlooked but critical skill of saying no—a game-changer for women juggling professional and personal responsibilities.

What Stands Out

One of the most refreshing aspects of Winning at Leading is how Watkins balances advice on professional growth with personal well-being. Leadership isn’t just about managing a team or meeting goals; it’s about leading your life with intention and care. This balance resonated deeply with me, and I appreciated how she didn’t shy away from tough topics like burnout or gender bias.

The book is packed with actionable advice, but Watkins also weaves in inspiration and motivation. You’re not just learning skills; you’re being reminded of your worth and potential every step of the way.

What Could Be Improved

While the book provides a comprehensive framework for leadership, I found myself wanting more real-world examples. The techniques Watkins shares are powerful, but case studies or testimonials showing how these methods have worked for others would have added a relatable, human touch. It would’ve been great to see stories of women who’ve applied these lessons to overcome challenges or achieve success.

Why You Should Read It

Whether you’re an aspiring leader, a seasoned professional, or someone passionate about fostering inclusivity and diversity, Winning at Leading is a valuable resource. Ronica Watkins offers a thoughtful and empowering roadmap for success—not just in your career, but in every aspect of your life.

This book will encourage you to step into your power, embrace your potential, and redefine what leadership means on your own terms.
