My Review

One of the highlights of this book is the preface, where Ceno explains the dream that inspired his work. This personal touch adds a layer of emotional depth to the book, showing his genuine passion for puzzles and historical figures of the people who matter to him. As a puzzle enthusiast, I’ve seen many books skim over introductions, but Ceno takes the time to guide readers through solving his puzzles. His tips and tricks are a game-changer, especially for those new to Sudoku, and logic puzzles or looking to refine their skills.

Engaging Puzzles and Historical Depth

The book’s 88 puzzles aren’t just exercises for the mind but tributes to extraordinary thinkers, artists, and scientists. Each puzzle is a small homage, blending intellectual challenge with historical reverence. While I found the Albcell puzzles enjoyable and straightforward, the historical context at the back of the book became my favorite section.

As a self-professed history nerd, I appreciated how Ceno included short biographies of the figures featured. It transformed a standard puzzle book into a mini-history lesson.

The Highs and Lows of Instructions

While the Albcell puzzle section had clear, detailed instructions, I found the anagram puzzles and trivia portions a bit confusing. Without clear guidelines, I struggled to understand how to approach them. A section similar to the Albcell instructions would have made these puzzles much more enjoyable.

Extras That Add Value

Another standout feature is the inclusion of an answer key. Many puzzle books either omit answers or bury them in an inaccessible way, but Ceno ensures readers can check their work easily. Coupled with the historical tidbits at the back, the book offers an immersive experience, blending challenge with education.

What I Loved:

  • The detailed preface highlights the author's passion.

  • Clear Albcell instructions with helpful tips and tricks.

  • The historical figures section, adds a rich layer of context and insight.

  • The variety of puzzles keeps things fresh and engaging.

What I Didn’t Love:

  • The anagram puzzles and trivia lacked clear instructions, which made them frustrating at times.

Who Is This Book For?

People That Matter is perfect for puzzle enthusiasts, history buffs, and anyone who loves a mental challenge. Whether you’re a seasoned Sudoku solver or someone looking to try something new, this book offers something unique. Its historical depth makes it a standout in the crowded puzzle book market.

Final Thoughts

Gazmend Ceno’s People That Matter is more than a collection of puzzles; it’s a tribute to human brilliance. Despite minor flaws, the book’s creativity and passion shine through, making it a worthwhile addition to any bookshelf. If you love puzzles with a purpose, this is the book for you.
