My Review

In How to Make a Sandwich, young Rae is eager to make herself a sandwich, one that’s not only tasty but full of meaning. The bread, she explains, is like her parents, providing protection and security. The turkey symbolizes love, while the lettuce adds a dash of fun. But every time Rae adds a new ingredient, it mysteriously vanishes! She soon realizes a sneaky sandwich thief is at work, leaving her determined to uncover the culprit and reclaim her lunch. Will Rae ever get to enjoy her sandwich, or is it destined to be devoured by this mischievous thief?

A Deeper Look

What’s particularly captivating about this book is how Lorena M. Proia weaves a gentle message within the fun and fast-paced storyline. Through Rae's adventure, young readers are introduced to themes of perseverance, resourcefulness, and the little hiccups that can happen even with the simplest of tasks. Proia takes something as ordinary as sandwich-making and transforms it into a lesson about problem-solving, all while keeping the tone playful and engaging.

What I Loved

🌟 The Humor and Whimsy: Proia brings an infectious energy to the story that makes every page a delight. The disappearing ingredients are a clever and hilarious element, keeping readers guessing and giggling along with Rae's growing frustration.

🌟 The Illustrations: While the text carries its weight in charm, the illustrations really bring Rae’s world to life. The vibrant, colorful images perfectly match the book’s upbeat tone and will surely capture the attention of little ones. Each page is rich with detail and expression, making Rae’s journey through her disappearing sandwich all the more fun to follow.

🌟 The Message: Beyond the laughs and fun, there’s a subtle lesson about family, love, and perseverance. The metaphor of the sandwich ingredients adds depth to the story, as Rae reminds us that love (and a little fun) is at the core of every family interaction—even if it involves a sneaky sandwich thief!

Final Thoughts

"How to Make a Sandwich" by Lorena M. Proia is the perfect combination of entertaining storytelling and meaningful life lessons, making it a must-read for children. Its humor, heart, and lively illustrations make it a book that kids will want to read over and over again. Whether your young reader is a fan of food-themed stories or simply enjoys a good laugh, this book is sure to satisfy!

It’s a wonderful reminder that sometimes, even in the smallest things like making a sandwich, we can find creativity, love, and maybe even a little mischief. Rae’s determination to get her sandwich back is something every child can relate to—because who doesn’t want to finish their lunch in peace?

For me, "How to Make a Sandwich" easily deserves a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5-star rating. Proia’s playful writing style, combined with the vibrant illustrations, ensures this book will be a hit on any child’s bookshelf. It’s a fun, heartwarming read that brings families together—and makes you crave a sandwich!
